By hand, assistant, agency or software: how should you prospect?
· By the Outrify team
When prospecting takes up too much of your time, you have four options: keep doing it by hand, pay someone, hand the work to an agency, or automate it. None is perfect. Here's how they compare, honestly, so you can choose the one that will really grow your agency.
The comparison
| By hand | Assistant or setter | Outreach agency | Outrify | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free, but it costs your time | Salary, flat fee or commission | Monthly fee and/or commission, varies by agency | $105/mo (Starter) or $281/mo (Pro) |
| Your time | Several hours a week | Training and supervision | Low | Initial setup, then monitoring |
| Control | Full | Depends on the person | Partial: the agency writes on your behalf | Full: your target, your criteria, your messages |
| Consistency | Stops as soon as you're busy | Depends on their availability | Good as long as you pay | Every day, in the scheduled slots |
| Risk to your accounts | Depends on your discipline | Depends on their practices | Depends on their practices | Daily limits and automatic stop |
| Conversation with the model | You | Them, then you | The agency, then you | You |
By hand
It's the right way to start: you learn what works, you write your first messages, you understand your target. The problem comes as soon as you have something else to do. Manual prospecting always stops right when you need it most, when you're busy managing the models you already have.
An assistant or a setter
Paying someone to open conversations reproduces what established agencies do. It works if you find the right person, but it's a fixed cost before you've signed anyone, training time, and quality that depends on someone else. And if that person leaves, your process leaves with them.
An outreach agency
You delegate everything. It's the option that takes the least of your time, but also the one that leaves you the least control: the agency chooses the profiles and writes on your behalf. Before signing, ask how they target, what they write, at what pace they send, and what happens if your account gets restricted.
Software like Outrify
You keep control of the target, the criteria and the messages, and the repetitive work runs without you. Outrify finds profiles, decides whether to contact, skip or wait, sends personalized messages in the slots you schedule, and stops on its own at the slightest risk signal. The price is fixed, known in advance, and you can test before you pay.
The limit: software doesn't replace the conversation. When a model replies, it's your turn. For us, that's the right split: the machine handles the repetition, you handle the relationship. You keep a founder's control, with the consistency of a team.
Which one to choose?
- You've never prospected: start by hand for a few days to understand your target, then automate.
- You have a method but no time: software keeps your method and runs it every day.
- You want to delegate everything, conversations included, and you have the budget: a setter or an agency, while keeping an eye on their practices.
